RECERTIFICATION FOR
CERTIFIED ASTHMA EDUCATORS - C.A.E.s

INTRODUCTION

In November, 2000 the CNAC established a recertification process for C.A.E.s. January 31, 2002 was determined as the starting date. All C.A.E.s were notified that their certification is time-limited and they were provided with the details and criteria for establishing continuing competency and maintenance of certification status. A Recertification Committee was established to develop the details of the process and the structure.

This committee developed a document listing criteria, conditions, time schedules, process and forms. That document was circulated to members of the Certification Management Committee, Examination Committee, Item-writing Committee, and directors of CNAC-approved asthma education programs for review and comment.

In January 2002 the Certified Asthma Educators' 2006 Application Guide for Recertification was published and distributed to all C.A.E.s on record. The Guide provides all the information required including the necessary forms for application for recertification.
